A retelling of the story of Oedipus--as Sophocles dramatized it in Oedipus the King--and a reading of my translations of the five odes from that tragedy. The five odes, filled with sparkling language, intense and surprisingly modern feeling, and myth, are among the most beautiful poems of the ancient world. My book of translations of Sophocles, Selected Poems: Odes and Fragments (2008), which contains these odes, will be for sale at the reading.
